Excerpt from Matched By Masala

“Don’t act like I have never given you a compliment.”
“Um, you have never given me a compliment.”
He stared at her a beat. Then he broke out into his wide smile, with maybe a hint of mischief in his dark eyes. “Well, maybe you never made anything I liked before.”
She narrowed her eyes and threw the sponge at him. He cleanly dodged it, which gave her a chance to get close enough to smack his shoulder.
“Ow.” He laughed and mockingly rubbed his shoulder.
“Amar Virani, you are a royal pain in my ass.” She set her jaw and flared her eyes as she made to smack his other shoulder, but he caught her hand.
“Okay. Okay. Mercy. I’m sorry.” He held on to her hand and placed it on his chest. “If I complimented everything you made that I loved, it would take forever for me to finish. If I’ve never said it before, I’ll say it now. You are, hands down, the best pastry chef I know.”
Divya was speechless. It wasn’t just his words —but oh my god, did he just say that? It was the intensity with which his eyes met hers, the closeness of his body, the steady but rapid beat of his heart underneath her hand. “Oh.”
